MY ‘TBR’ (To Be Reviewed) Pile

I like to read, no, scratch that; I LOVE to read! From fantasy to thriller, not much is off limits – although I’ve never been one for romance. I also review the books that I’ve read, as a way of sharing my opinions and hearing those of others. Do we like the same book? Yeah? Cool. No? Cool, tell me why.

There’s nothing better than talking to someone who loves the same book or author that you do, and waxing lyrical about that character or this character. It’s awesome! And this is why I get excited about the books I haven’t read yet; I am about to discover a character that I like, or even better, a character that I absolutely hate!

Below is a list of just some of the books I currently have on my ‘TBR’ pile. Let me know if you’ve read any of them yet, and if so, what did you make of them?

1. The Blood Mirror (Lightbringer series #4) by Brent Weeks

Brent Weeks is one of my all-time favourite authors. I remember first reading the Night Angel Trilogy and just falling in love with it. It had everything; an awesome world, great action, and characters that were fantastic (I now have a cat called Durzo!). Ever since first reading the NA Trilogy, I have followed Weeks’ works and the Lightbringer Series does not disappoint. I particularly love the magic system and the ‘drafting’ of colours in this series. I have no doubt that this book will be another fine addition to the series.

2. Visions of Zarua by Suzanne Rogerson

I have already started reading this book and so far, it’s awesome. This will be the next book I review and so I won’t put any spoilers out yet. For now though, I’ll leave you with the synopsis; after all, it has EVERYTHING you’d ever need!

‘An ancient darkness haunts the realm of Paltria.

Apprentice wizard Paddren is plagued by visions of a city on the brink of annihilation. When his master Kalesh dies in mysterious circumstances, the Royal Order of Wizards refuses to investigate.

Helped by his childhood friend, the skilled tracker Varnia, and her lover Leyoch, Paddren vows to find the killer.

The investigation leads Paddren down a sinister path of assassins, secret sects and creatures conjured by blood magic. But he is guided by a connection with a wizard from centuries ago – a wizard whose history holds the key to the horror at the heart of the abandoned city of Zarua. Can Paddren decipher his visions in time to save the Paltrian people from the dark menace of Zarua’s past?’

3. Veiled Intentions (The Dragon’s Blade #2) by Michael R. Miller

The first instalment of The Dragon’s Blade Series, The Reborn King was fantastic, and it had a ton of stuff that I love in a book; fantasy, magic, interesting characters, and FIGHTING! I have no doubt that the second book of the series will be equally as good, if not better and I’m dying to dive into it  (metaphorically of course).

I would (and have) recommended Miller’s books to a boatload of my fantasy-loving friends. And I do the same to you!

Have you read any of these books? If so, let me know. If not, maybe I can do some convincing 😉

  1. Blood Mirror has been in my TBR for some time, but I gotta finish all the Bakker books and The Wheel fo Time before I can get to that. Nice list tho. How was the first book of Dragon’s Blade?

  2. Thanks, Dan. I can’t wait to read your review of Visions of Zarua. I haven’t read any of Brent Weeks’ books yet, and The Dragon Blade series also looks really good. Lots more to add to my tbr list!

    1. I must admit that Brent Weeks holds a very special place on my bookshelf; I love all of his works. The Dragon Blade series is really cool and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to the second instalment. For now though, I have Visions of Zarua to keep me company 😀
P.S don’t TBR lists just get totally out of control in the shortest space of time?!

  3. I’ve heard a lot about Brent Weeks and I’m really intrigued. It just seems as a project to read his books, a project not to start halfway through The Wheel of Time, but I’ll might pick up the Lightbringer series later 🙂

    1. His writing is soo cool. I love the worlds he creates and the characters that he writes. His books aren’t really difficult to get into (something I struggled with when attempting ‘The Wheel of Time’) and you should be able to pick them up quite quickly. Let me know when you do get around to reading his works; I’d love to know what you think 😊

      1. I will 😀 I am struggling from time to time with The Wheel of Time, but I like the story and do want to finish the series 🙂
