Hear Ye, Hear Ye, lend me you ears (or thoughts to be exact)

Hello, and a Happy Monday πŸ™‚

Recently I have been checking over my blog and the content that I’ve posted since I started my little blogging venture in March of this year. I’ve come to the decision that I’d like to do something a little more interactive.

I love the idea of reviewing books in the form of a video, say a YouTube video. I do have a channel but as yet I have only subscribed to other people’s videos. However, there a few things that I am unsure about, here are the pro’s and the cons.

unsure meme

Pro’s

  • It is fun and interactive
  • I can mess around with editing software
  • I can meet loads of new people
  • I could become and overnight internet sensation and make loadsa money *ahem*

Cons

  • Will I just end up looking like an amateur bag of s&*t?
  • I have a north east regional dialect, will people actually understand me?
  • Am I interesting enough to warrant 5 minutes of viewing?
  • Are people actually interested in video book reviews?
  • Will my face fit?
  • Will I have to do my hair? (I hate doing my hair)

This is not just an exercise in self-loathing, I promise. These are genuine fears. I mean, I think I’m interesting enough but does anyone else? I suppose I’ll never know until I’ve tried it. Please let me know what you think, all opinions and thoughts are welcome. Do you have any tips before I embark on this little venture?

As always, thank you πŸ™‚

  1. Will I just end up looking like an amateur bag of s&*t?- I doubt… your reviews look mighty good this far and aren’t we all just amateurs in this game? So have a go and you won’t know until you try!
I have a north east regional dialect, will people actually understand me?- ha! This could actually be a pro. Accents are awesome… Funnily enough I can understand a scotsman better than a Northern Irish person. But I still love to listen to them if to train my ears, so don’t worry about that. You know Guy Martin? My god, it takes me 10 minutes to get into the flow of what he’s saying but it’s awesome. So- accents are yay!
Am I interesting enough to warrant 5 minutes of viewing?- People who will follow you find you/your posts interesting. Sure, a bit of scripting and work needs to be put in for good content, but you can do it!
Are people actually interested in video book reviews?- Obvs they are, there’s plenty of that stuff out there and seems to me quite popular as well!
Will my face fit? – Ha, if it doesn’t then that could be your USP/branding! The faceless reviewer!
Will I have to do my hair? (I hate doing my hair)- no… messy is the new sexy!

    Good luck πŸ™‚

  2. Well Dan, just go for it! I don’t think viewers would mind the dialect. Booktube can be very diverse so I dont think the viewers would mind. πŸ™‚ Anyway, you do great reviews, so I think you’ll be able to pull it off!

  4. 1.Will I just end up looking like an amateur bag of s&*t?
If you have fun doing what you do, then it doesn’t matter if your’re an amateur or a seasoned professional. People will warm to your enthusiasm.
2.I have a north east regional dialect, will people actually understand me?
Accents are all over the tv these days. It makes you more unique and relatable. And I’m from Up North too, so I think we’re the ones who speak proper. lol.
3.Am I interesting enough to warrant 5 minutes of viewing?
You’re interesting enough for people to follow your blog, so you already have a head start on an audience.
4.Are people actually interested in video book reviews?
Same as above. There are already well known booktubers, so there’s definitely an audience out there for book related content.
    5.Will my face fit?
Just don’t stand too close to the camera. lol.
6.Will I have to do my hair? (I hate doing my hair)
Plenty of people don’t even leave their beds to do youtube videos, so I don’t think doing your hair should be your top priority.
Get filming and get uploading. There are people waiting to subscribe. πŸ™‚

    1. 1. That’s so true! I do enjoy blogging and I hope that vlogging will be the same, I’ll try to be as enthusiastic as I possibly can!
      2. Haha we do speak proper like! I’m not fill Geordie, I’ve got a softer Durham accent so I should be ok come to think of it. I’ll just have to annunciate.
      3. This is true, I’ll have to make sure the content is up to scratch.
      4. I’ll have to look and see what the book tube community has to offer and see what kind of content they’re putting out there. I don’t want to be the same as them but I’d like to have an idea.
      5. Haha but I’ve got a big head! I’ll have to place the camera further away πŸ˜‚
      6. Nah, stuff the hair, I’ll go messy. It’s the new sexy, or so I’ve heard!
      7. Thanks a lot for taking the time to give some great, positive advice mate, it really is appreciated!

  7. The only way you will ever know is to try, your reviews are good and not lacking in depth. There is no reason at all that it wouldn’t work, if Sheldon can pull off world of flags I’m sure you will make a great success of video reviewing. Good luck!!! if you decide to go ahead.
